Music Academy

Music Instructor: Gregory Steele

Taught through a combination of classroom style workshops and hands-on training in Ymocs production lab and recording studio, This gives students an opportunity to develop their talents while gaining first hand experience in multiple aspects of the music industry, as an artists (song writing, producing, recording) and as a business person (public relations, licensing, marketing). The program is designed to expand the musical literacy and personal awareness of students using lessons about music history, music theory and creative writing that feeds into a collaborative environment where students work together to write, produce, record and market a Music Project 

On the first day of classes, held in one of the four recording studios, you’ll be actively learning and participating in studio-related audio engineering & production tasks. Recording classes at ymocs are small to ensure that our students get plenty of one on one time with their instructors and recording & production equipment as needed. That means from day one, you will learn by doing, not just watching.

In addition to hands-on experience with our studio equipment, as part of your studies at ymocs, we’ll bring in professional working artist for you to work with and record as final projects. You’ll get invaluable experience and knowledge in music production and the recording arts from our instructors, who have decades of credits from recording artists from all genres of music. They will be sharing their tips, tricks, and tools of the trade with you first hand.

 

The Audio Engineering & Production course is a program in the recording arts aimed strongly at a hands-on, real-world approach :

  • Microphones and placement techniques

  • Signal routing and patching

  • Compression, EQ, and digital effects

  • Fundamentals of digital audio

  • Using industry-standard software – Pro Tools HD

  • Software plugins including Melodyne, Auto-Tune, Elastic Audio and Beat Detective

  • Setting up a tracking session

  • Protools & Logic

  • Music Production

  • Transferring between different digital platforms

  • FL Studio

  • Working with MIDI

  • Mpc Production

  • Advanced editing techniques

  • Full band recording, editing, mixing, and mastering

  • Studio etiquette, life skills, invoicing, and becoming an independent contractor

Art of DJing Class

The classic DJ turntable experience with the portability and flexibility of digital files so you have the power to rock parties without hauling around crates of vinyl. In Serato: Fundamentals, instructor will help you get acquainted with the Serato interface so you can navigate this powerful system. 

 

our instructor is a veteran Scratch DJ Academy instructor and in this beginner-friendly class he’ll show you the basics of DJ’ing using the Serato interface. You’ll learn about: 

 

  • Beatgrid markers 

  • Manual Loops 

  • Auto Loops 

  • Beatmatching
